About Me

About - Expertise

I earned an M.S. in Counseling degree from California State University, Hayward. I received my B.A. in Political Economy from The Johns Hopkins University. In an earlier career, I was a project manager in the commercial office furnishings industry. Having worked in the corporate world gives me a very real understanding of the stresses and challenges faced by workers and professionals in today's business environment. My traineeship at Circle of Care in Oakland, CA, focused on grief, loss, and long-term illness. For the past six years, I have been at Family Paths in Hayward, CA, providing treatment for a broad variety of presenting issues. Learning does not stop with formal education. I am constantly developing the knowledge and understanding required to meet the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds and histories, coping with today's world. In addition to regularly attending trainings on mental health topics, I have completed the three-year Somatic Experiencing® training program. This training encompassed over 230 hours of coursework, practice, and case consultation. As well, I have attended supplementary trainings designed to deepen my understanding of core Somatic Experiencing® principles and to improve my work with clients.

I have completed 30 hours of training in the assessment and treatment of gambling addiction, provided by the California Office of Problem Gambling.

Who I am as a person will be reflected in my style of helping others. I am a parent. I practice yoga in order to develop mindfulness and balance the stresses of everyday life. Walking and hiking keep me oriented to the natural beauty that surrounds us. I believe that creativity and self-expression are important areas for my clients to explore, and I practice what I preach. My emphasis on self-care and physiological self-regulation supports my efforts to encourage the same in my clients.
