About Me

Gwynne Gilson, MFT
Like yours, my life is a journey

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and provide trauma treatment, as well as therapy for depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss to clients anywhere in California.

I earned an M.S. degree in Counseling from California State University, Hayward. I received my B.A. in Political Economy from The Johns Hopkins University. In a previous career, I was a project manager in the commercial office furnishings industry. Working in the corporate world gave me a very real understanding of the stresses and challenges faced by workers and professionals in today's business environment.

My traineeship at Circle of Care in Oakland, CA, focused on grief, loss, and long-term illness. While on the clinical staff at Family Paths, Inc. in Hayward, CA, I provided treatment for a wide variety of issues.

I respect the values and beliefs of all people, and have successfully worked with clients from diverse spiritual, religious, and cultural backgrounds. I hold a special interest in helping parents navigate the most important and challenging job in the world.  Please click on the link in the header for more information on my areas of expertise.

Learning does not stop with formal education. I am continually developing the knowledge and understanding required to meet the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds and histories, as they cope with today's world. In addition to regularly attending trainings on mental health topics, I have completed the three-year Somatic Experiencing® training program. This training encompassed over 230 hours of coursework, practice, and case consultation.  I have also completed the "Fundamentals of Advanced Ericksonian Hypnotherapy" training with Eric Greenleaf, PhD.

Who I am as a person will be reflected in my style of helping others. I am a parent. I practice yoga in order to develop mindfulness and balance the stresses of everyday life. Walking and hiking keep me oriented to the natural beauty that surrounds us. I believe that creativity and self-expression are important areas for my clients to explore, and I practice what I preach. In fact, my own photography is featured throughout the site.

My emphasis on self-care and physiological self-regulation supports my efforts to encourage the same in my clients.
